The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) had received 2,758 registrations for tornado damage assistance as of Thursday morning from a 10-county disaster area.

And a vast majority of those — 2,352, or about 85 percent — were submitted by Montgomery County survivors, according to FEMA.

Already, about $1.5 million in assistance through FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program has been approved for victims. Roughly 90 percent of that has been disbursed, said FEMA spokesman Leo Skinner.

Most of the early funding is going toward rental assistance and home repair, he said.

By the end of Wednesday, 488 people had showed up in person to talk with FEMA representatives at one of the area’s three operational disaster recovery centers — the bulk visiting the center at Trotwood-Madison High School, Skinner said. Another center will open for four days in Miami County beginning today.
