Golf season at Wright-Patt filled with tournaments, challenges

Beginning April 1, both Twin Base and Prairie Trace golf courses will officially open for the spring and summer season from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Both courses can be booked for events, and dates are filling up fast.

The following tournaments will be offered at both Prairie Trace and Twin Base throughout the rest of the season:

The Masters Pick Your Partner will kick off April 7. Play any time during the day at Twin Base. On the weekend of the Masters, play a round of golf and draw a player’s name in the Masters. Twin Base will then match your score with that player to declare winners.

Twin Base will kick off May with the Diddel Day and Jones Cup. The tournament will begin May 5 at 9 a.m. The format will be computer-generated, four-person teams. Play your own ball, and your score will be added to the other three players that the computer picks for you and the best three scores of the four will count.

There will be a blind draw at the end of the tournament. The Jones Cup will be given to the low gross individual. A USGA handicap is required. A meal will follow play.

The 3 Club Challenge is new at Prairie Trace on May 19. Pick your favorite three clubs and play your own ball. This event will begin at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded, and a meal will be provided after play.

Match Play Championship at Prairie Trace and Twin Base will be June 9-10 & 16-17. Time to duke it out with fellow golfers in a single elimination match play bracket following an 18-hole qualification round. A presentation will follow the final round and meal will be provided.

A Couples Scramble at Twin Base is set for June 24. Pick a partner and enjoy some casual competition with fellow teams. A presentation and meal will be provided after play

The 4th of July Shootout at Twin Base will be June 30 & July 1-2.

New this year is the Wright-Patt Shamble at Prairie Trace on July 14. A fun new format features select shot off the tee followed by each player playing his or her own ball to the green. A presentation will follow the round and meal will be provided.

Beat the Pros Challenge at Twin Base will be July 28. Take on the professional staff at their own game. A mix of three formats will be played over 18 holes with your partner. A presentation will follow the round and meal will be provided.

Club Championship at Prairie Trace and Twin Base Golf Course is slated for Aug. 25-26. Time for the big event of the year, 36 holes of strokeplay over two days with gross and net competitions. A presentation will follow the final round and meal will be provided.

Lemon Ball Tournament at Twin Base will be Sept. 22. A modified scramble using a different player’s score on every hole, in addition to the best score in the group. A presentation will follow the round and meal will be provided.

The Ryder Cup Tournament at Prairie Trace is set for Oct. 6-8. Pick your partner and compete in a scramble, best ball, alternate shot over three days with prizes for each round and a meal at the end of the final round

Turkey Shoot at Prairie Trace and Twin Base will be Nov. 17. The season-closing Turkey Shoot Cross Country Tournament will be held Nov. 17 at Twin Base. It will begin with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. USGA handicap is required for this tournament. Golfers can pick their partners as well. A meal will be provided after play.
