The construction of a new, expanded Miamisburg Branch Library officially begins with a groundbreaking ceremony at 10:30 a.m. today.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony at the corner of Linden and Sixth Street in Miamisburg.

“This won’t be a simple shovel groundbreaking,” Jayne Klose, Library Community Engagement Manager, said in a release. “We’ll have a full-size steam shovel move the first pile of dirt.”

Children’s services will continue to be a focus of the new Miamisburg Branch Library.

Because Miamisburg is known as Ohio’s Star City, the children’s area will have a stars theme with a marquee entrance to the story room and puppet theater.

The new library also will feature a quiet reading room with a fireplace, a dedicated teen area, a larger community room, group study rooms and new technology. There will be four art installations commissioned especially for the library through the ReImagining Works project.

The rain location for the groundbreaking ceremony is Memorial Auditorium, 14 S. Sixth Street.

This is the latest construction project in the Dayton Metro Library's Libraries for a Smarter Future facilities improvement plan, made possible by voter support of a 2012 bond issue.
