Severe Thunderstorm Warning; High winds, thousands without power in Miami Valley

There is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Greene and Warren Counties until 6 p.m. The National Weather Service said winds up to 60 miles an hour were possible. A strong line of storms is expected along Clark, Greene, Miami, Butler, Warren and Montgomery Counties.

DP&L’s outage map shows that thousands of customers are without power in Montgomery County. As of 4:56 p.m., there were over 4,000 customers without power and over 5,000 people in Greene County are without power.

The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement, saying that high temperatures and high humidity will result in heat index values as high as 102 degrees. They urge anyone who is outside to take precautions such as wearing light colored clothing and drinking lots of water. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Miami Valley from noon today until 8 p.m. tonight.

Temperatures will range from 96 degrees to 74 degrees and there is a chance of light breezes today. There is a slight chance of rain after 3 p.m., but the skies are expected to be mostly sunny during the day. Clouds are expected in the evening and there is a chance of rain or thunderstorms.

Tomorrow, the skies will stay sunny and temperatures will stay warm, ranging from 91 degrees to around 70 degrees. There is a chance of more rain and thunderstorms Monday, but the likelihood is low. Any rain or storms will likely occur before 11 p.m., the National Weather Service said.

On Tuesday, the skies will be cloudier and we will see more chances of rain and storms. Temperatures will remain about the same, with highs around 91 and lows around 72. The National Weather Service reported that the skies will likely be cloudy all day.
