There were mixed reactions over the score and whether coaches and players should have done more to prevent such a wide margin of defeat.
Delaware County Daily Times: The local paper, near the district where Sun Valley High School is located, ran a story with the headline "Sun Valley finds Ohio rather inhospitable."
The writer said the “nightmarish loss” set county records for most points allowed in a game.
MaxPreps: When the high school sports news source reported that the "legendary football team in Ohio" won by 95, it noted the last 100-point game in high school football was Sept. 11, 2015 as Meadville (Pa.) beat DuBois 107-90.
“The last time it was done in Ohio was way back in 1963 when Buckeye Valley beat Cardington 108-0.”
MaxPreps readers had mixed reactions:
Joe Scalzo with the Canton Repository said the high score didn't need to happen and there was more that coaches could have done to limit the damage.
“On Friday night in Massillon, a football team lost 101-6. Everyone else did, too,” he wrote.
"No matter how overmatched the opponent, no high school team ever has to score 100 points in a game." https://t.co/HeOtiu7BYH
