Hot, humid, rainy today as moisture from Hurricane Laura pushes into area

Today we will start to see tropical moisture pushed into the area by Hurricane Laura, leading to overcast skies, high humidity and chances of showers and storms, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The NWS forecast a slight chance of rain and thunderstorms around dawn, rising as the day goes on and peaking around 2 p.m. Wind gusts as high as 22 mph are expected.

Temperatures will be hot, with highs of around 89 degrees, though the heat index could push into the upper 90s.

Rain chances will fall away after night falls, with temperatures falling to around 73 degrees.

Tomorrow, moisture from Hurricane Laura’s remnants will push into the area, causing rain and storm chances to rapidly rise during the morning hours.

Rain chances will become especially strong starting in the afternoon, and will remain high through the night.

Temperatures and humidity will again be high, with high temperatures around 89 degrees and heat index values in the low 90s. Lows will be around 71 degrees overnight.

The NWS forecast high chances of rain in the early hours of Saturday morning, which will gradually fall through the morning, before dropping off through the afternoon. We will also have a slight chance of storms in the early morning and in the afternoon.

Temperatures will be warm during the day but cooler, with a high near 83 degrees.

Saturday night will be mostly clear and much cooler, with temperatures dropping to around 58 degrees.
