An Air Pollution and Air Quality Advisory is in effect today in Clark, Darke, Greene, Miami, Montgomery and Preble counties, issued by the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency.

The Air Quality Index today is expected to be 105, and any reading 101 or higher is considered “unhealthy for sensitive groups,” which includes groups like children, the elderly and people with breathing problems.

To help reduce pollution on days when there are air quality issues,

  • Avoid driving if possible. If not, try to combine running errands or delaying them until the Air Quality Alert is lifted. While driving, avoid excessive idling, especially at drive-thru windows.
  • Refuel vehicles after 8 p.m. if possible, or wait until the Air Quality Alert is over. Make sure your gas cap is on tightly to avoid letting gas fumes escape.
  • Limit the use of gasoline-powered equipment around the home, such as lawn mowers, chainsaws, power trimmers and shredders.
  • Mow lawns after 6 p.m.

Today will be hot and sunny, with high temperatures reaching up to around 89 degrees.

Tonight, however, we will start to see some clouds coming into the area as temperatures fall to around 69 degrees.

Those clouds will lead to a change of showers and thunderstorms on Thursday, starting soon after the sun comes up. It will still be warm during the day, with highs near 85 degrees.

We will continue to see a chance for more showers and storms through the night and into Friday, with temperatures dipping to around 68 degrees during the night.

During the day on Friday, we will continue to see the same chance of showers that we saw on Thursday night, though we can expect to see some sun poking through the clouds, with highs reaching up to near 83 degrees.

As night falls on Friday, so will the rain chances, although the NWS forecast that we will still see a slight chance of rain as temperatures drop to around 65 degrees.
