The store was closed for 10 hours after a plumbing issue forced the business to shut its doors due to sanitation concerns.
“We close any store experiencing plumbing issues because of the sanitation requirements in our deli and around our grocery items,” Walmart corporate spokeswoman Leslee Wright said.
Wright said the health department has inspected the business and has approved the store’s reopening.
UPDATE @ 3:15 p.m.
Sewage overflowed onto the floor from a bathroom at the front of the Huber Heights Walmart store and the store closed to get it cleaned up, according to an official at Public Health — Dayton & Montgomery County.
The store hired a company to clean up the mess. The sign on a truck and trailer in front of the store indicates the company is SWS Environmental Services.
According to health records, county health officials have not received a complaint prior to today about sewage backing up at the store.
Health inspections were done at the store in August and February of this year, August and January last year. Those inspections were satisfactory, according to the health official.
A health inspector is responding to the store today to make sure the cleanup was adequate.
UPDATE @ 11:55 a.m.
A plumbing problem has forced the Walmart in Huber Heights to close today.
The store closed sometime this morning and customers were being turned away around 11 a.m.
Leslee Wright, Walmart spokeswoman, said the store is working to fix a plumbing problem and will reopen when the repairs are done.
Because the store contains food, it will likely need to be inspected by a health official before the all clear is given, Wright said.
