A 55-year-old Dayton woman died after she was hit by a vehicle outside Miami Valley Hospital on Wednesday morning.

A cause and manner of death have not been determined for Sheryl A. Manns at this time, according to Montgomery County Coroner Kent Harshbarger.

A woman told 911 dispatchers that Manns was walking slowly in the road when she was hit.

“She was walking really slow in the road,” the caller said. “I didn’t see her at all.”

The caller, who was driving the vehicle that hit Manns, said that hospital staff was outside and told her that Manns was breathing and moving.

The woman died from her injuries hours later, according to police.

“The pedestrian succumbed to the injuries sustained from the accident and passed away,” said Sgt. Gordon Cairns, supervisor of the Crash Reconstruction Unit. “The investigation is being handled by the Crash Reconstruction Unit and is ongoing.”

It is not clear if the driver was cited.

The incident was first reported at 6:14 a.m. at South Main and Wyoming streets.

South Main Street was closed as a result, but the road reopened as of 8:09 a.m.
