For the first time in school history, Oakwood High School will have a dedicated sports facility to accommodate soccer, field hockey, boys and girls lacrosse and track.

The new regulation-size track is something that Oakwood doesn’t have at Mack Hummon Stadium adjacent to the school.

“We’ll be able to host our own track meets here, and we’re excited about that,” said Oakwood High School Principal Paul Waller.

Here are five things to know about the new facility.

Not just a field: The concession building houses a multitude of useful amenities for the athletes and the public: A training room featuring a partnership with Kettering Health Network, two team rooms, restrooms with access for the public outside of official school events, concessions partnered with Grinders and storage for field and facility maintenance.

Designed with safety in mind: The field at Lane Stadium is synthetic turf built with concussion padding designed to lessen impact shock and extend the life of the field. The field is lined for four sports: soccer, field hockey, boys lacrosse and girls lacrosse, which have different distances between the goals.
