JD Vance’s mother celebrates her birthday, inauguration ceremonies on same day

Beverly Aikins celebrated her birthday today and the swearing-in of her son, JD Vance, as the Vice President of the United States.

The Middletown mother of Vance sat next to his daughter-in-law, Usha Vance, and the family of President Donald Trump as both Vance and Trump were sworn in Monday during the inauguration.

Seated right behind Aikins were some of the country’s top tech executives, including CEOs of Apple, Meta and X among others.

Her appearance at the inauguration was in question after Aikins recovered from a health scare in the past three weeks.

Aikins, who raised Vance in Middletown and still lives there, said in a social media post she had recovered from a hiatel hernia and heart issues at Soin Medical Center in Beavercreek. She spent more than a week in the hospital.

During her time there, she said Vance visited her at the hospital with many other relatives.

“I must also mention my boy, JD, who investigated and interviewed my surgeon, visited me despite his busy life and insisting I get the VIP treatment while in the hospital. My recovery is slow, but I have an inauguration to attend on January 20,” Aikins said in her public social media post.

She asked others to pray for her so she could board a plane Saturday for Washington, D.C. to witness her son’s inauguration.

“My recovery is slow, but I have an inauguration to attend on January 20,” Aikins wrote. “Nothing will stop me from being there.”

Aikins attended inauguration events on Sunday and spoke about her son in glowing remarks.
