The region’s newest Mexican restaurant is located at 1864 Colonel Glenn Highway, in space that most recently housed the Wright Wing sports pub. Its first full day of operations was April 10, and business has been steady during its first day-and-a-half, Hector Gonzales, the founder of Hector’s Taco Shop, told this news outlet Wednesday night.

Gonzales also is involved in the Dayton area’s Victor’s Taco Shop locations, and the restaurants share a similar menu. But Gonzales has added several menu items distinctive to his namesake restaurant, including a variety of tortas, or Mexican sandwiches, as well as sizzling fajitas, breakfast plates, a veggie quesadilla and other items.

One other difference: Hector’s will soon serve beer and margaritas, starting within the next few days, Gonzales said.
Hector’s seats about 75 combined in its small inside dining room and its spacious porch that faces Colonel Glenn Highway. Retractable tarps will be installed on the porch in the coming days, Gonzales said.

***ORIGINAL STORY (March 19, 2019)***
A Mexican restaurant — the first of its kind in the Dayton area — is in the works in the former Wright Wing sports pub at 1864 Colonel Glenn Highway in Fairborn.
The menu of what will soon be Hector's Taco Shop will look familiar to customers of local Victor's Taco Shop restaurants, but will add some specialty items as well as beer and margaritas. No Victor's location currently sells alcohol.

Hector Gonzales, a co-owner of Victor’s Taco Shop, said the new restaurant could be open as soon as early April.
“This will be similar to Victor’s, but this is my own. That’s why it’s ‘Hector’s,’” Gonzales said.

The food menu at Hector’s will have a few a few additional choices that go beyond the already extensive Victor’s menu. And the new restaurant will serve craft beer and several flavors of margaritas, Gonzales said.

Hector’s Taco Shop will seat about 28 inside, and another 40 or so on a patio, Gonzales said. He is working on retractable covers for the patio to extend its season.
The restaurant will focus on dine-in and carry-out initially, but plans call for adding a drive-through.

Gonzales said he is already eyeing a second location for the new restaurant concept, most likely in the Kettering area.
