A Texas-based deli chain is looking to open a shop in the Dayton area, offering a southern touch as well as gluten-sensitive and vegetarian options.

Jason’s Deli is seeking to open a location near Ohio 741 in Miami Twp. The family-owned business with 275 delis in 28 states has three sites in the Columbus area and one in Cincinnati.

Earlier this year, the sandwich chain announced plans for a Beavercreek location near the Mall at Fairfield Commons and Wright State University.

Jason’s - which offers soups, salads, muffalettas, pasta, sandwiches, and vegetarian and gluten sensitive options – plans to open a 5,000 square foot shop at Summit Point Drive and Ohio 741 near Austin Park Apartments and Austin Landing, township records show.

“We were one of the first restaurant groups to remove artificial trans fats from our food,” according to the company’s website. Since then, the website states, it has eliminated processed MSG, high-fructose corn syrup, dyes and artificial flavors from its menu items.

A proposal calls for the deli to front Ohio 741 the east of Austin Park Apartments and just south of Universal 1 Credit Union, township records show.

The plan is scheduled to go before the Miami Twp. Zoning Commission Tuesday night.
