A growing retail/restaurant business made its Butler County debut today with a new name.

WG Kitchen & Bar is the new brand identity for The Wine Guy Wine Shop, Wine Bar & Bistro, a 6,500-square-foot business in the Bridgewater Falls lifestyle shopping center.

The establishment, which features an outdoor patio, restaurant, wine bar and wine shop, is the first to sport the new moniker, according to owner Craig Decker.

“The biggest reason for that is that most everybody identifies our store when it says ‘The Wine Guy’ … as a wine shop,” he said. “The consumer just doesn’t identify with that food portion when they look at the sign on the outside of the building.”

The new location is the second in the greater Cincinnati area and the fifth in Ohio. The name change will eventually be applied to all existing locations, Decker said. Two new locations are set to open at The Banks in downtown Cincinnati and Cary, N.C.

The Bridgewater Falls location, which seats 202 guests, presents a tremendous opportunity, Decker said.

“When you look around here, you’re not fighting six other restaurants like we are in Rookwood,” he said. “It’s always good to have a lot of restaurants around you, but if you’re all serving the same style of food, you’re competing against each other for that same customer.”

Instead of doubling the price for a bottle of wine served during dinner, as most restaurants do, WG Kitchen & Bar charges just a $10 “corkage” fee, Decker said.

Guests may enjoy a bottle or glass of wine from the wine shop or choose from eight wine flights, each of which includes a sampling of four varieties of wine. Wine flights are updated quarterly with new wines to enjoy.

The business also features a full bar and a compilation of microbrews, plus domestic beers not currently offered at other locations.

The kitchen portion of WG Kitchen & Bar is open for lunch and dinner with different menus for both serving tapas, or small plates, which deliver an individual, half-size portion. For those who want more of their favorite menu item, dinner portions also are available.

Despite its fine dining presentation, guests shouldn’t feel pressured to dress in formal attire, Decker said.

“You’ll find people coming in dressed to the nines … and we’re capable of serving them Cristal (champagne) at $300 a bottle and putting a 10-ounce filet in front of them like Ruth’s Chris Steak House does, or you can have a burger that’s made with three different types of meats and … enjoy it in a pair of blue jeans and drink a $6 bottle of wine if you want to or have a Bud Light with it,” Decker said.

The business also offers a wide selection of gifts and accessories, including gift bags, foil cutters, bottle openers, bottle stoppers, glass charms, chillers, wine preservers and more.
