Kroger wants to add fuel center to Sugarcreek Twp. store

Kroger has requested approval from Sugarcreek Twp. officials to add a fuel center to its existing store at 6480 Wilmington Pike, township officials said this morning.

Plans call for a six-pump fuel station that would be built in front of the store along Wilmington Pike, on a portion of the store’s parking lot that is rarely used for store parking, according to Cara Tilford, planning and zoning director for Sugarcreek Twp.

Kroger officials submitted design plans for the proposed gas station, and those plans are on the March 26 agenda for the township’s Board of Zoning Appeals, Tilford said.

Kroger has also submitted plans to build a new store in the Cornerstone of Centerville development less than two miles north of the existing Sugarcreek Twp. store. A company spokeswoman could not be reached for comment this morning. The spokeswoman previously has said that no decision has been made regarding the impact on any nearby stores a new Cornerstone Kroger would have.

But the Cincinnati-based company has announced plans for an extensive renovation of the Wilmington Pike store even before submitting plans for a new fuel center there. Another Kroger store is located at 2100 E. Whipp Road in Kettering less than two miles west of the Cornerstone development.
