There are approximately 320 workers at the plant, and company representatives said up to 180 employees will have the opportunity to transfer to the Faurecia East plant in Troy, or to another plant in Franklin, Ohio.
That still leaves at least 140 workers without work. Faurecia officials said some assembly operations will be relocated to Faurecia's Toldeo plant and to a facility in Silao, Mexico.
"It's going to hurt," said one worker. "I'm going to be out of a job and looking for money. You've got to eat, you know."
Another worker said "I've got 12 years seniority in here, and they're telling me I've got to re-apply as a new hire over at the other plant."
The company is also closing a plant in Granger, Indiana. In all, 440 hourly and salaried employees will be impacted.
A press release issued Thursday said, "Faurecia is executing a strategic plan to position its operations where they will be the most efficient for our customers," said Mark Stidham, President of Faurecia's exhaust operations in North America. "While this means we must close our facilities in Granger and Troy West, our remaining exhaust systems plants will maintain production and are already performing at a high manufacturing level. These changes to our footprint will position Faurecia to expand our business with current and new customers."
The plants will close in August.
