Today will be cold and wet, with snow expected all day and some rain mixing in this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

The NWS said that there may be as much as 1-2 inches of snow, mostly on elevated roadways and grassy areas, and more so in northern areas. The commute could be affected, and traffic slowdowns are possible.

Snow will eventually end from west to east in the evening.

During the day temperatures will only rise to around 36 degrees.

Once the sun goes down, chances of snow will quickly drop off, leaving a cloudy sky with a low of around 30 degrees.

For Thursday, although the bulk of the rain and snow will be gone, the NWS said we will still see flurries and drizzle throughout the day. Otherwise skies will be cloudy, and temperatures will rise only slightly from overnight to a high of about 34 degrees.

The flurries and light rain are expected to continue well into the night before ending in the early hours of Friday morning. Temperatures will dip further down to around 26 degrees, and clouds will begin to decrease as we get closer to dawn.

By daybreak on Friday, skies will be partly cloudy, and temperatures will be a bit warmer than the prior two days with a high around 39 degrees.

Clouds will start to increase again Friday afternoon, and continue to gather throughout the night as temperatures fall to around 30 degrees.
