Blairwood Elementary School has a new tradition. It’s called, “Bedtime Stories with Mrs. Woods.”

Each week, Principal Monica Woods goes live on the Blairwood Elementary School Facebook page to read a bedtime story to her students for two reasons: 1) to encourage the love of reading, and 2) because she recognizes reading at bedtime is a special way to make a connection to students and help them to wind down for the day.

“As a little girl, I loved when my mom would take just a few minutes at night to read to my sister, brother and me just before bed. I’d like for my students to have a similar experience,” she said.

So, with that in mind, Principal Woods reads to her Blairwood students one night per week, and she will continue until the last Tuesday of the school year.

She encourages them by inviting them to, “Join me Tuesday night in your PJs for this week’s Bedtime Stories with Mrs. Woods.”
