New school superintendent is Piqua graduate

Dwayne Thompson was hired Tuesday as the new superintendent of the Piqua City Schools.

Thompson will assume the superintendent’s role with the departure of Rick Hanes, who is joining the staff at Edison State Community College. The board of education approved a three-year contract with Thompson, who will be paid $118,000 a year. The contract is effective Aug. 1.

Thompson is a graduate of the Piqua City Schools and holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Ohio University and a master of education degree and superintendent certificate from Wright State University.
