Springboro boosters regain nonprofit status after troubles

The Springboro Athletic Boosters have regained their federal nonprofit tax status, Superintendent Todd Petrey said this morning.

The boosters’ 501c3 status was revoked in November 2010 after their former Treasurer Thomas Harves failed to file the group’s returns with the IRS for three consecutive years.

ExploreHarves was later convicted of embezzling more than $400,000 from the organization.

ExploreIn July, the school board approved a three-year contract with the group in anticipation of it regaining the nonprofit status.
