“The addition of another prominent local business partner and Lakota’s leap into the program as an actual host is an exciting next step in continuing to grow this option for our students,” said Lakota Superintendent Matt Miller. “The more we can diversify the industries and job experiences our students can explore, the more clarity they can have about their post-graduation plans.”
Following the district’s application and interview process for internship placement, each company will accept up to five students to participate in four rotations, each a week long throughout April. Participating students will also earn one academic credit.
In recent years Lakota, which is the largest school district in Butler County and the eighth biggest in Ohio, has greatly expanded its internship program.
More than 60 Lakota East and West high school students will have the chance to gain hands-on experience in such career paths as OT/PT/speech therapy, marketing, biomedical engineering, podiatry/small business, surgery/physical therapy, and public finance.
Moreover, the district also now offers internships within its Central Office organization including: public finance, curriculum and instruction and marketing and public relations.
“We are grateful for AC Hotel’s willingness to invest in our future workforce and give them an inside look at how different fields of expertise might contribute specifically to the hospitality industry,” said Fran Morrison, Lakota’s senior director of Innovation Programming K-12.
The Planes internship experience will focus on collaboration, networking and project management in a professional environment with a special focus on communications, customer service and process management.
“Making the leap from the classroom to a professional environment is truly a different type of educational experience,” said Ronda Du Vall, Director of Customer Service at Planes. “Planes has had a long history of success working with Lakota students and we are excited to be a part of their formal internship program.”
In total, about 100 juniors and seniors will be selected to participate in one of 11 different spring program options. Other spring business partners include ABC Pediatric Therapy Network, Beacon Orthopaedics, The Center for Foot Care, Ethicon, Procter & Gamble (Corporate Engineering Technologies Laboratory), UC Health West Chester Hospital and Various Views Research.
