SCHOOLS: Trotwood hopes to get back to normal after tornado
School board President Denise Moore said the school district is working with the Montgomery County Educational Service Center (ESC) and K-12 Business Consulting on the search process. Representatives of those groups will be at the community forum, and will be at district schools earlier that day to get input from staff and students.
Trotwood Superintendent Tyrone Olverson resigned on Aug. 1. Since then, district Director of Operations Marlon Howard has served as acting superintendent, but last week, he informed the board that he would not seek the position on a long-term basis.
“This Board understands and appreciates the deep commitment Mr. Howard has to his family,” the school board said in a letter to staff. “We honor and respect his decision to return to his previous role within the school district.”

Those who can’t attend the forum have another way to share their thoughts on the superintendent search.
A questionnaire on the district’s web site gives residents a chance to say which characteristics they think the school board should look for in a new superintendent. The form also asks people to rank the importance of 10 specific characteristics, including fairness, communication, academic expertise, investment in the community and more.

AUGUST: Trotwood superintendent resigns suddenly
Trotwood schools received an overall grade of “D” on the past two state report cards, narrowly avoiding state takeover in fall 2018. The district’s grade for students’ year-over-year academic growth has been an “F” the past three years.
“We believe with the help of the Montgomery County ESC and K-12 Business Consulting, Inc. we will find the right candidate to successfully lead our school district and community into the future,” the school board said in a statement. “We are excited to find the next superintendent who can lead us to become a professional learning community where our vision is 100% student success.”
