Beginning July 1, regular curbside service will cost $15.25, regular house side $33, qualified senior curbside $7.63, and qualified senior house side will be $16.50.

The current curbside rate with Waste Management is $41.46 for three-months.

City officials said the proposed rates they received from both companies show a significant difference in cost.

“Waste Management’s proposed monthly costs for the new contract were significantly higher than Rumpke’s proposal for all service levels,” Bergstresser said. “The contract allows for up to a 3% annual price increase for all service levels beginning in year two of the Rumpke contract, which begins July 1, 2021.”

The senior rates are age and income qualified - age 65 or older with an adjusted gross household income of $35,000 or less.

Weekly collection service levels will remain the same, including: regular curbside automated service, subscription house-side service and income eligible senior rate service.

“Throughout the months ahead, Rumpke will be focused on preparation to ensure a smooth transition for Kettering residents,” said Rumpke spokeswoman, Amanda Pratt. “To prepare, Rumpke is purchasing new equipment, adding team members and developing appropriate and timely communications to keep residents informed.”

Service offerings in the new contract will mirror the current waste removal and recycling program for single-resident households.

When the contract begins, service and or collection will occur on the same schedule. All existing services including regular curbside service, house side collection and senior citizen discounts will be included in the new program.

The contract is exclusive to single family residents, however, Rumpke will continue servicing existing as well as any new contracts with individual Kettering businesses.

“Rumpke looks forward to this newly expanded relationship with the city of Kettering,” Pratt said. “Kettering is the 17th Montgomery County municipality to select Rumpke Waste & Recycling service . We are very excited to partner with Kettering to customize services to best meet the needs of the community.”
