According to a release issued on Thursday, Warren County Treasurer James Aumann closed the office, located at 406 Justice Dr. in Lebanon, for the remainder of the day, “due to illness.”

Barney Wright, the deputy treasurer elected to replace Aumann on Sept. 1, said he was out after minor surgery.

Wright said the closing was probably due to illness that had caused two of six staffers to be out of the office this week and was spreading to co-workers on Wednesday.

“It does not surprise me to find this out,” Wright said in a phone interview. “There’s something going around.”

Wright said the staff, six workers in addition to him and Aumann, had been working overtime and weekends to complete collections of property taxes for the first half of the year.

“I think it hit everybody’s immune system,” Wright said.

He said the office could not remain open with so many absences.

Asked if the office would be open on Friday, Wright said, “we hope so.”

However Friday’s release indicated the office would remain closed.
