“We searched and found an award winning classic flavor of fine Kentucky bourbon paired with dark chocolate and topped it with crushed toffee candy,” owners Dan and Cindy Gress said.
Other sundae flavors include Buckeye Delight, which is topped with a chocolate buckeye; Strawberry Sensation, which has a dipped strawberry on top; and Old Fashioned Lemon Custard.
The “Mom-and-Pop” frozen custard shop is adding another new wrinkle this year: “flights” that consist of three “taster” scoops of either custard or Italian ices.
JD’s also offers Ice Cream Pizza made with a home-made brownie crust. “We mix candies with our vanilla custard and spread that over the crust,” Cindy Gress said. “We then drizzle with syrup and hardening chocolate. The most popular flavor is the Reese’s Cup Pizza.
“We also carry Oreo, Reese’s Pieces, M & M and Turtle. We sell them by the slice or Whole Pizzas per order for events. And we can make special orders for whole pizzas with any flavor and topping you like.”
JD’s employs 20 and will add four more when it reaches its peak summer season.
The shop has a couple of annual events in the works: A “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” Blood Drive in June and a Toy Drive for Children’s a “Christmas in July” celebration. And an anniversary celebration is in the planning stages, Cindy Gress said.
"We would like to do something for our Facebook fans to celebrate 20 years," she said. "We have a big following of 5,467 fans."
JD’s Old Fashioned Frozen Custard’s hours — as written by its owners — are “Mondae through Saturdae from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundae from noon to 9 p.m.”
