Col. Thomas Sherman, the 88th Air Base Wing commander, declared a public health emergency on Monday for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

The base had its first confirmed case of coronavirus on Saturday. The person worked in Building 262 on the base’s Area A, Sherman said in a Sunday update.

“Based on the Public Health Emergency Officer’s recommendations and the results of ongoing investigation and situational monitoring, I am declaring a public health emergency,” Sherman said.

The base will remain open but limited to essential work functions and services.
