$4,000 worth of cigarettes stolen during Dayton gas station break-in

Two large boxes of cigarettes valued at $4,000 were stolen during a break-in at a Dayton gas station early Tuesday morning.

Officers were dispatched to a business alarm at OM Oil at 3420 Needmore Road around 3:50 a.m. Tuesday and found the front door to the store was damaged, according to a Dayton police incident report.

After waiting for the owner to arrive, officers found no one in the building, but two large boxes containing 30 cartons of cigarettes was missing. The owner estimated the stolen merchandise was worth around $4,000, investigators said.

Police reviewed security camera footage that showed two men use a large concrete block to ram the front door and jar it open. Investigators said the suspects went behind the counter, found the two boxes containing the 30 cartons of cigarettes, and left the store, each carrying one box.

One suspect was described as a young male, wearing a black jacket, gray undershirt, gray pants, black gloves and a white face cover. The second suspect was also described as a young male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, black gloves, and a black mask, according to the incident report.

Both suspects were able to get away and were seen on the surveillance footage running to the east of the store.
