- Give yourself three times more space than usual between you and other vehicles
- Brake gently to avoid skidding
- Avoid passing plows when possible
- Stay out of the "pack" when driving on the highway, leave yourself an "out"
- Whenever possible, use major routes that have been cleared
- Do not use cruise control on wet roads
- If involved in an accident, either stay in your vehicle or move away from it, far from traffic
