“At this point, we get to send them home to new families and they’re going to have new lives and be well cared for and loved, certainly excited about that,” SICSA CEO Nora Vondrell said.
The dogs, mostly Yorkshire terriers and mixes, were in rough shape when they arrived at the shelter, with fur so matted the dogs were in pain.

“They had been dumped in a box with some food with a letter indicating that owner could no longer take care of the animals,” Vondrell said.
Since then, the abandoned pooches have been pampered with plenty of patience and puppy love.
While this group has gotten a lot of attention, there’s not enough of them to go around compared to the interest they’ve generated.

“Right now at this point, we’re getting hundreds of calls every single day just about these dogs,” Vondrell said.
SICSA has plenty of other pets looking for good families.
The adoption center opens at noon at 8172 Washington Church Road in Washington Twp. The dogs will be available first come, first serve, Vondrell said.
The rest of the abandoned dogs are in the care of Luv4K9s rescue in Dayton.
