The all-day-K mandate was part of the public education program laid out by Kasich's Democratic predecessor, Gov. Ted Strickland.
Superintendent Dallas Jackson of the suburban Forest Hills school district in southwest Ohio tells The Cincinnati Enquirer there's a "tremendous cost" involved in offering a full day of kindergarten. He also acknowledges that it provides educational benefits for students.
Some districts say they plan to continue their all-day kindergarten programs, even if it won't be mandatory.
