Team Wright-Patterson honored its newest senior NCOs at an annual induction ceremony Aug. 23 at the Wright-Patterson Club.

The ceremony recognized the achievement of 40 Airmen who were promoted and are transitioning into the senior NCO ranks. Historically, less than 25 percent of the enlisted force makes it to the senior NCO tier.

The ceremony was hosted by Col. Thomas Sherman, 88th Air Base Wing and installation commander, and Chief Master Sgt. Keelan Rasmusson, 88th Air Base Wing Staff Agency superintendent.

The ceremony began with inductees walking through a sabers arch lined with members of the top three enlisted ranks. Promotees could choose to have a special person escort them through the arch as well.

Each member wore a formal uniform and sported a medal on their chest. The medallion-shaped medal displays the master sergeant enlisted chevron, which denotes the milestone these Airmen have achieved by attaining the rank of master sergeant and becoming a senior noncommission officer.

The Wright-Patterson Honor Guard posted the colors, and Air Force Band of Flight vocalist, Staff Sgt. Joanne Griffin, sang the national anthem.

The senior NCO tier consists of our top three enlisted grades: master sergeant, senior master sergeant and chief master sergeant. As the member reaches the senior NCO tier, his or her primary focus will become mission accomplishment and will now serve as leaders, supervisors and mentors with the goal to further develop the junior enlisted members under their charge.

The guest speaker for the evening was Chief Master Sgt. Troie Croft, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center command chief.

Following Croft’s remarks, inductees were called to the stage to receive a framed certificate that includes their promotion line number.

The event culminated with Rasmusson administering the senior NCO oath to all inductees.

It was relayed to the new NCOs that possessing such qualities as prestige, resiliency, innovation, discipline and excellence will help them be more successful transitioning to a leader of operational competence and mastery.
