What began more than 40 years ago as a small fine art show, the Englewood Art Festival has evolved into family fun days.
The 41st Englewood Art Festival will include artists selling handmade works, community and civic booths, entertainment and food booths.
Before the festival officially opens Aug. 9, the 25th 5K Classic will take off at 8 a.m. from the start/finish line on Union Boulevard, near Overla Boulevard. The entry fee is $17 with T-shirt or $8 without a shirt. Participants wanting a shirt must register before Aug. 1. Race day registration is $10 with no shirt.
A parade traditionally has followed the morning run. This year, however, the parade was canceled due to major highway construction, said Judy Flee, publicity chairwoman, Englewood Festival and Arts Commission.
The festival will feature more than 100 booths including artists and civic/community displays. Among food offerings will be bourbon chicken, pulled pork, beef brisket, homemade ice cream, roasted corn and a Bier Garden.
Activities, held in the early days on U.S. 40 between Ohio 48 and Walnut Street downtown, now are held in Centennial Park. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 9 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 10.
“I feel the success of the festival is due to six months of hard work by the Festival and Arts Commission along with the city’s cooperation and sponsorship. It’s the free event the entire community looks forward to year after year,” Flee said.
Other activities include the 10th Cruise In and Charity Auction with E/Rider car, truck and bike show on Sunday and a Volksmarch, also Sunday.
Visitors are asked to bring lawn chairs for seating to watch the entertainment. The Tom Daugherty Orchestra will perform at 1:30 and Ticket To Ride at 5 p.m. on Aug. 9. At 3 p.m. Aug. 10, the U.S. Air Force Systems Go music combo will close the festival.
