The Piano Preparatory School in Beavercreek will be moving into a new building next spring, a $1 million project under construction at Indian Ripple and Grange Hall roads.

The foundation for the new building is in place just a few blocks east of the school’s current location, at 3899 Indian Ripple Road.

Owner Jennifer Shoup said the project has special significance to her because her ancestors owned the 1.3-acre lot next to Bern’s Garden Center dating back to the 1880s.

Shoup said her family lived in a former schoolhouse there until 1959 when an airplane crashed into it, killing her grandmother and two aunts.

“It’s been a real personal joy to see the land come back to the Shoup family,” she said.

The piano prep school provides lessons in piano, guitar, voice and strings.

The new 5,200-square-foot facility will be larger and will enable the school to grow in enrollment and services, Shoup said.
