The Beavercreek Police Department announced that K9 Dunga “DJ” died Thursday at age 14.

He was the partner of Officer Chris Williams and retired in 2016 after nine years with the department.

DJ was a Belgian Malinois born in Holland and began his training there to become a dual purpose working dog.

He joined the Beavercreek Police Department in July 2007. Williams and DJ were certified with the state in September 2007 and worked together until DJ’s retirement.

His greatest love was to “perform” at demonstrations and to play with the kids who attended, according to a Beavercreek police Facebook post.

“He did great things over the years and was a true asset to the city of Beavercreek,” the post read.

DJ enjoyed his retirement with his best friend Stella, also a Belgian Malinois.

“Recent health problems slowed DJ down and he still tried to maintain his warrior mentality but his body wouldn’t let him. DJ will be missed by all of us,” the post said.
