“Everybody’s saying new beginning, new beginning,” said Susan Scambilis, who lived at the home on Rosehill Drive. “We’re OK with that, the new beginning, but its sad to see what we’ve built in the last few years.”
Scambilis said she was watching a Netflix series with her daughter and as she turned of the show, flipped to WHIO-TV as the violent tornado headed toward their house.
As Scambilis’ family ran for cover, their neighbors came over and as they made it inside the power went out.
“All we heard was glass breaking, wind,” she said. After the storm passed they came upstairs to find the garage and roof gone from their house.
The Beavercreek resident said she appreciates all the help they’ve received from the community, including a local church that helped them in the days after the storm.
Scambilis said it’s still too early for her family to decide whether they will rebuild at the same place, but they are taking things day-by-day.
“We don’t know what tomorrow is going to be,” she said.
