On Thursday, officials with Big Brothers Big Sisters closed on the purchase of the South Jefferson Street address, according to Matthew DiCicco, board chair. He declined to disclose the purchase amount.
The South Jefferson Street address is the soon-to-be former headquarters for BarryStaff.
Doug Barry, president of BarryStaff, announced in August that his family’s company had spent approximately $1.5 million to purchase nearly two acres across the street from the Tech Town business park to build a 13,000 square-foot building that would house its new headquarters.
The Barry family wanted to move from the Jefferson address to a new building located at the corner of Webster and Monument Streets because the Jefferson building was too small.
The size is just right for Big Brothers Big Sisters, who have been at the Arbor Boulevard address for nearly five years, according to DiCicco.
“This building and move actually allows the opportunity for growth,” DiCicco said.
He added that Big Brothers Big Sisters has 14 employees, two of them part-timers, who will be moving to the South Jefferson Street location.
Big Brothers Big Sisters used to be housed in the former United Way building on Salem Avenue but left when United Way sold the building. The Salem Avenue address is now home to charter school Richard Allen Academy.
“We really excited about the move because it allows us to better serve our folks here in the Dayton area. That’s where the majority of our folks are served from, the city of Dayton, and we’re just excited about the growth within the city of Dayton and the revitalization of the area,” DiCicco said.
In the meantime, Big Brothers Big Sisters is still looking for a replacement for its current CEO Joe Radelet, who is retiring from his position this summer.
“With the new building and a new CEO coming in, there is a great cause for excitement for Big Brothers Big Sisters in 2015,” Radelet said.
