Both dedicated their lives to all things “band” during the 12 years (2001-2013) their three daughters participated in band. Kristi served several years on the board, as well as serving as Case Mom, on the Pit Crew, as Dragons game coordinator, and she was involved in many fundraisers and behind-the-scene activities. Steve served 11 years on the Pit Crew and as Pit Boss for seven of those years.

The Doctor Bowers Award is not given to an active booster member. It is given to a community member who no longer has a student member in the marching band program but continues to provide support to the boosters. The Gastons have volunteered their time to the Northmont Band Boosters multiple times since their daughters have left the school.

The Dr. Bowers Award was named in honor and memory of Dr. Michael Bowers, a local optometrist, who served as Englewood mayor and was an avid supporter of the band program.
