Reports came flooding into social media about a bright shooting star viewed Saturday evening.

These people likely saw a fireball, which is a very bright meteor, Storm Center 7 Meteorologist Kirstie Zontini said. Typically, fireballs will have a tail as they burn up. The color associated with this has to do with the composition of the meteoroid.

Some said they saw a green light, which would mean it was made up of nickel. The reports to the American Meteor Society show that the fireball may have been traveling north.

Meteor showers are typically associated with more fireball reports. The Dracnoid and South Taurid meteor showers are both peaking this week.
