Young adults in Lebanon have planned a peaceful candlelight vigil tonight honoring the Black lives lost in police violence.

“Lebanon is a predominately white, conservative community with a scarred record of racist incidents. So while race relations are being discussed on the national front, the vigil’s organizers found it important to acknowledge how their community was also part of the overarching problem. With the abundance of protests and demonstrations, they wanted to create a reflective vigil to show support for the movement and spread awareness,” according to a press release issued Friday.

The vigil is to be held from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. near the post office and food pantry on North Cherry Street in Lebanon.

Speakers are to include local students, educators and residents.

“The momentary candlelit portion of the event will be done by using phones’ flashlights,” according to the release.

The group did not want participants to bring homemade signs to the event.
