UPDATE @ 3:33 a.m.:

A young man is in the hospital after a crash that was strong enough to throw a car’s engine block across the street, according to Springfield Police Sgt. Osborne.

Osborne said that crews were originally called to an injury accident, and on arrival found a young man who was transported to the Springfield Regional Medical Center.

The man was ultimately flown by CareFlight to the hospital, Osborne said.

Officers are now working to investigate the crash, but Osborne said that after a preliminary look at the crash, it seemed the car first hit a tree and the possibly a light pole.

The crash threw the car’s engine block across the street.

Other information was not available, Osborne said, partly because of a language barrier and that the driver was not in a condition to talk much.

The crash remains under investigation.
