Car strikes house in Piqua; police cite teenage driver

UPDATE @ 12:15 a.m. (March 27): None of the four teenagers in a sedan that smashed into a house on East Main Street was injured, a Piqua police officer said.

The officer said police believe the accident may have resulted from distracted driving.

The driver of the four-door sedan will be cited for failure to control a motor vehicle, the officer said.

While no one was in the house when the car hit it, the damage will keep the residents out for an unknown period of time, the officer said.

A city housing inspector will have to evaluate the integrity of the wooden structure, the officer said.

INITIAL REPORT (March 26)

A car has struck a house in the 100 block of East Main Street and police are on scene.

Police and fire units were dispatched about 11:15 p.m. on the report. We’re on the way to check out the report.

We’re hearing there is major structural damage to the house. We have not heard any reports of injury.
