Deputies: Child believed to have non-life-threatening injuries after falling into fire pit

A child who fell into a fire pit at a Darke County campground on Memorial Day and was taken to the hospital by CareFlight is believed to have non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Darke County Sheriff’s Office.

No further details were released about the child’s injuries. Initial 911 scanner traffic indicated that the child was 5 years old.

Deputies responded to the Stillwater Beach Campground on Versailles Southeastern Road with Bradford Rescue and CareFlight crews around 7:14 p.m. Monday.

The preliminary investigation revealed that multiple juveniles were playing at a camp site and that one of them fell into the fire pit while playing, according to the sheriff’s office.

The children were reportedly being supervised at the time of the incident.

Bradford Rescue treated the child at the scene and then transported them to a landing zone.

CareFlight flew the child to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
