Twice a year, the Air Force Association offers the Pitsenbarger Scholarship, a $400 grant, to Airmen graduating from the Community College of the Air Force.

One Airman will be selected from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base this fall. A committee will select the recipient based on job performance, scholastic achievement, education goals and leadership qualities. Financial need is not taken into consideration during the selection process.

To apply for the award, Airmen must submit the following documents as a package:

Proof of enrollment or intent to enroll in an accredited university to complete a baccalaureate degree

List of citations and awards

Written narrative describing all extracurricular activities and explaining their significance. The narrative should also include undergraduate plans and goals.

Commander's endorsement

Three most recent Enlisted Performance Reports

The recipient will receive a $400 check to use toward higher education, along with a complimentary, one-year AFA eMembership. “The money can be used to pursue higher education however the individual needs it,” said Edie Redfern, Education Services chief. “It’s not sent directly to a school to only apply for tuition or books. If you have fees at your school that you’re paying out-of-pocket, then you could use that money to pay for the fees.”

The scholarship will be presented at the 2019 CCAF fall graduation ceremony.

The Pitsenbarger Scholarship is offered to every spring and fall CCAF graduating class. It is a one-time award; former recipients cannot reapply.

The scholarship is offered at other military installations but is non-transferrable from one base to another. Each installation customizes the application. In addition, several on-base organizations historically award scholarships in conjunction with CCAF graduation, and the Pitsenbarger application is also used to choose those award recipients.
