Today is Census Day: Oakwood tops response rate for Miami Valley

Today is Census Day, and here is what the data so far shows.

Ohioans have a 39.3 percent response rate, exceeding the national average of 36.2 percent, according to the U.S. Census Bureau online response rate map.

While much of the Miami Valley’s response rate is better than the state and national averages, Oakwood is tops with 55.9 percent, followed by Bellbrook with 50.3 percent.

The city of Dayton trailed the Miami Valley with a 30 percent response rate.

All households should have received invitations with detailed instructions on how respond online, over the phone or by mail.

Why does the 2020 Census matter?

The results will help determine how billions in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade in areas including highway construction, education and school lunches, or housing assistance for older adults.

Oakwood: 55.9 percent

Bellbrook: 50.3 percent

Centerville: 49.8 percent

Beavercreek: 49.6 percent

Yellow Springs: 48.8 percent

Springboro: 48.6 percent

Miamisburg: 47.5 percent

Washington Twp.: 47 percent

Tipp City: 46.7 percent

Perry Twp.: 46.6 percent

Sugarcreek Twp.: 46.3 percent

Englewood: 46 percent

Butler Twp.: 45.8 percent

Huber Heights: 45.5 percent

Farmersville: 45.2 percent

Clayton: 44.9 percent

Jackson Twp.: 44.9 percent

Brookville: 44.5 percent

Miami Twp. 44.1 percent

Troy: 43.7 percent

Kettering: 43.6 percent

Union: 43.6 percent

Vandalia: 43.3 percent

Lebanon: 42.1 percent
