“We’re doing everything we can to enhance the experience at Stubbs park for our residents in Centerville and any of our neighbors who visit,” Centerville City Manager Wayne Davis said at Monday night’s council meeting. “Stubbs Park is a tremendous community asset and at times an underused one.”
Centerville City Council approved the conditional use of alcohol in the park. Councilman John Palcher was the lone dissenting vote, but he offered no explanation for his opposition.
Stubbs Park will be the only city park to allow alcohol.
The ordinance allows alcohol sales during certain events, but vendor applicants will have to get a liquor permit through the state and the approval of the city manager’s office. Also, the city plans to allow nonprofit organizations to earn money from selling bear at city events.
City leaders say this is part of expanding its offerings at Stubbs Park, which will host double the events next year.
“This is not a revenue source for the city of Centerville,” Mayor Brooks Compton said. “This is an opportunity for citizens to make more use for the park, bring more events to the park that will provide good activities for the people of Centerville and those who visit the park for a good activity.”
