Centerville man named a commander at Air Force base

A Centerville resident has been named the leader of a command at Scott Air Force Base in Illinois.

Air Force Brigadier Gen. Kenneth R. Council, Jr. was named the commander of the U.S. Transportation Command’s Joint Transportation Reserve Unit. Council is the 14th commander of the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit and its Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard reservists, according to a release from the base.

“To the men and women of the Joint Transportation Reserve Unit,” Council said, “I stand here filled with pride to be your new commander. I have big shoes to fill and look forward to continuing the work of the past 13 JTRU commanders.”

Council currently lives in Centerville with his wife Doriann Council. He grew up in Thomasville, Georgia and is a pilot for a major airline, according to the release.

As its new leader, Council will oversee the command’s responsibilities, including conducting globally integrated mobility operations, leading the broader Joint Development and Distribution Enterprise and providing capabilities to project and sustain the Joint Force in support of national objectives. Council replaces Army Major Gen. Daniel R. Ammerman as commander, according to the base.
