Greg Mueller, who has been serving as acting principal of Chaminade Julienne High School this fall, has been chosen for the role on a long-term basis, according to school officials.

Mueller, who had been CJ’s assistant principal, and an English teacher at the Catholic school before that, stepped in when John Marshall moved from principal to director of development this fall.

“He is clearly ready for this leadership opportunity,” said CJ President Dan Meixner. “Because of the strength of the education leadership team and the support of the teachers and staff for Greg, I have great confidence that he will be successful and can make wonderful contributions in this new role.”

School officials said they conducted a thorough search process before offering Mueller the position. Mueller, 36, earned his bachelor’s degree in education and his master’s in education leadership from the University of Dayton. He has worked at Chaminade Julienne since 2006.

“I am humbled and honored to accept the position of principal at Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School,” Mueller said. “The rich tradition and living charisms of the Marianists and Sisters inspire me to continue the mission of Catholic education at the corner of Franklin and Ludlow streets.”

Marshall had served as CJ’s principal for 14 years, helping oversee major physical changes to the campus in the past few years, including classroom renovations, a new STEM center and multiple new athletic facilities. The school has about 700 students who come from across the greater Dayton region, representing 46 zip codes, according to school officials.

Mueller’s hiring marks the first change in principal at a Dayton-area catholic high school since 2011, the year when Matt Sableski was hired as principal at Carroll High School and Lourdes Lambert took over at Alter.
