Chinese food with a taste of Manhattan

BELLBROOK — Don’t be surprised if you taste a bit of Manhattan in your Chinese takeout at the Panda Garden, one of Bellbrook’s newest additions to the growing culinary scene.

It is located just west of the Discount Drug Mart, in a leased space at 4445 W. Franklin St. (Ohio 725).

Qiang Li, the restaurant’s owner, hails from Manhattan, and the crispy fried noodles in his favorite menu dish, Seafood pan fried noodles, are a big hit there, he said.

Several weeks ago Li was still working on putting the inside of the shop together with the hope of opening in mid June. He had a menu display up in the restaurant, but was headed back to Manhattan to get his restaurant menus together and gather up his family, which is moving to Bellbrook, he said.

He has a wife, Tracy, and three children, ages 6 1/2, 2 1/2 and 10 months.

Li, who is of Chinese heritage, had a Chinese restaurant in New Jersey for eight years, he said, but seven months ago, on his way back home, he passed by the Bellbrook area and stopped to get gas and food. “I fell in love with the area,” he said. “The people are nice and friendly. I feel lucky to have a business in Bellbrook. I believe in destiny.”

The restaurant will only seat 12 to 16 people, so he expects it to be mostly carry out. Delivery will be free on orders of $15 or more, he said. Local businesses will be offered a 10 percent discount, he said.

Hours will be 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Saturday and noon to 10 p.m. Sundays.
