FC Cincinnati Futbol Club honored military members at a special Salute to Service soccer match, held at Nippert Stadium in Cincinnati Aug. 17.

The evening began with a military display on Sheakley lawn outside Gate 2 with a military Humvee display.

The pregame ceremonies involved the presenting the colors by member of area honor guards, including Wright-Patterson’s, first responder and JROTC honor guards while 55 volunteers displayed a large U.S. flag on the field.

Both teams wore special military-themed warm-up shirts as they entered the field during the opening ceremony.

At halftime Col. Thomas Sherman, 88th Air Base Wing and installation commander, administered the oath of enlistment and welcomed 10 future Airmen into the Air Force. The oath of enlistment is something that every service member must promise and adhere to for their entire military career.

FC Cincinnati lost the home match 4-1 to the New York City FC in front of a crowd of 27,273 fans.

Cincinnati is currently in last place in the eastern conference and will look to improve their overall record of 5-18-3 Aug. 25 when they play the Columbus Crew at Nippert.
