The Montgomery County treasurer is extending until Wednesday, July 31, the deadline for property owners with tornado damage to turn in paperwork asking to delay tax payments.

Since the Memorial Day tornadoes, 49 property owners have requested the extension, according to County Treasurer Russ Joseph. Property owners can extend the due date of second-half real estate taxes by one year for property that lost more than 25% of its value as a result of the tornadoes.

The original deadline was last Friday, the deadline to pay second-half taxes without a penalty.

“While many property owners who were affected by the recent tornadoes have already paid their property taxes this year, I know there are others who are still in need of assistance,” Joseph said.
